Freezing rain could hit Fraser Valley this week
CHILLIWACK — Mother Nature isn’t done with winter yet. Environment Canada has issued a weather statement for a large area of southeastern British Columbia, warning of wintry impacts through the middle of the week.
The weather statement includes the Howe Sound region, through metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Snow is expected in higher elevation areas such as Whistle and the Sea to Sky Highway. A mix of rain and snow is expected elsewhere.
The weather system is expected to hit the region Tuesday and stick around through Wednesday. Environment Canada says the afternoon commute could be made miserable by the conditions from the storm.
With warm air aloft, the snow is expected to become rain through the Fraser Valley late Tuesday or early Wednesday morning. But during the transition, the rain could be falling through a section of cold air near the surface. That could produce freezing rain in the Fraser Valley.
