Sumas River downgraded to Flood Warning in Fraser Valley
VICTORIA — As a series of potent storms impact southwestern British Columba, the B.C. Rivers Forecast Centre is downgrading the Flood Warning on the Sumas River to a Flood Watch.
According to the lastest statement from the B.C. Rivers Forecast Centre says rivers in the region have risen, and are expected to experience periods of high flows into next week. Peak river levels are expected to occur in most areas on Monday to Tuesday and may extend from Tuesday to Thursday for lake-driven rivers.
The City of Abbotsford says Straiton Road from Willet to Clayburn Road has been closed because of the heavy rain. Willband Creek, MacDonald and Hougen parks have also been closed because of flooding.
Initial storms have delivered 50 to 200 mm through different parts of the region since Friday. Current forecasting is indicating the next atmospheric river event to bring additional rain Monday evening into Tuesday.
