MISSION — Mounties in Mission say police have arrested and charged a 57-year-old Coquitlam man for his alleged role in a residential break and enter in Mission and for ramming his pickup truck into a police vehicle as he fled.

According to a statement from RCMP Corporal Harrison Mohr, Mission RCMP requested the public’s assistance in identifying a man that broke into a Mission home on Cottonwood Street on January 17. The man reportedly stole firearms, jewelry and other items, and rammed a police car to get away.

CCTV footage revealed that on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at approximately 10:45 a.m., an older white male used a pickup truck to barge into a garage door of a home on Cottonwood Street in Mission. The man subsequently entered the residence and stole multiple items including two tool boxes and a Husky air compressor.

Emboldened, the male suspect returned for a second round of crime at roughly 11:25 a.m. and stole a safe containing two firearms, jewelry and other family items.

After multiple tips from the public and other police agencies, investigators located the man and took him into custody without incident.

Paul Fontaine, 57 years old, of Coquitlam, has been charged with numerous offences, including break and enter, flight from police, and dangerous driving.

“Mission RCMP thank everyone who helped in the efforts to identify and locate this person,” Cpl. Mohr said in a news release.
