SURREY — The City of Surrey is hosting a series of public consultations to help in the development of its integrated community safety strategy.
The city will host three events on January 24, January 30 and February 1 to gather the public’s thoughts on the plan aimed at reducing crime, ensuring safe places and supporting the vulnerable population.
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke says in a statement that the city is “evolving and expanding” its approach to community safety through these consultations.
The city has been embroiled in a dispute with the provincial government over policing, with Locke favouring retaining the RCMP while the province has ordered that a transition to a separate municipal force must continue.
