CHILLIWACK — Environment Canada nailed it.

As promised by the national weather agency, a winter storm arrived shortly before midnight Tuesday and brought several centimetres of snow early Wednesday, resulting in a decision by SD33 to close all schools. Schools are also closed in Abbotsford (SD34) and Fraser-Cascade School District (Hope, Boston Bar, Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs).

Snow plows operated by City of Chilliwack operations crews were at it all night working to clear priority roads around the city, according to Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, who delivers newspapers for national chains.

“Our crews will continue to work 24 hour shifts on winter maintenance.
the city wrote on Facebook Tuesday (Jan. 16). “Please allow space for crews and equipment to operate.”
