CULTUS LAKE – A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP detachment says police received a report that an outhouse at a mountain biking parking lot near Cultus Lake was recently burned.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener told Fraser Valley Today in an email that officers were approached by someone from a biking club about an outhouse being destroyed by fire.

The parking lot is located just off Parmenter Road near Cultus Lake.

Corporal Kiener says that due to the remote location there is no video surveillance or physical evidence that was located for investigation.

A Facebook user reported over the weekend that someone committed the arson deliberately.

“Someone intentionally burned down the Vedder Mountain bike parking lot for the second time in two months,” the Facebook commenter said. “The recent unit had been kindly donated by a local business while the Fraser Valley Mountain Bike Association fundraised to build a new one. Come on, Chilliwack, I thought we were better than this.”

Corporal Kiener says no witnesses have come forward to assist police in their investigation, she said.

Visible burn marks appear on the base of where the outhouse was located.
