**Updated Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 3:15 p.m.: Chilliwack RCMP now say there is no suspected criminality in the death of an older Caucasian male near Yale/Spadina, following an incident that happened Monday evening, Dec. 4 in downtown Chilliwack.**

Original story below:

CHILLIWACK —Chilliwack RCMP Cpl. Carmen Kiener says the Serious Crimes Unit is investigating after a man died following some kind of medical distress.

According to a statement from Cpl. Kiener, Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report of a male in medical distress near the corner of Yale Road and Spadina on Monday night, December 4 at 9:57 p.m. The male was brought to the hospital and pronounced deceased.

The Chilliwack RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is investigating the incident and asking the public to come forward if they have any information or happened to be in the area last night between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. A/Sgt. Kiener says she’s hoping anyone can provide information about the male prior to his death.

The male is described as Caucasian, 60-70 years of age, with long grey hair and a grey beard, and was wearing a black and grey jacket with black pants.

Several police officers were on scene at 11:30 a.m. when Fraser Valley Today visited the scene Tuesday morning. The Spadina Avenue side of the church was taped off while the Yale Road was equally taped off. A police officer could be seen photographing the scene near a staircase on the north side of Yale Road while an RCMP member stood nearby. At least three members of the Chilliwack RCMP were standing outside the scene to help secure it, and possibly advise pedestrians to steer clear of the scene since the sidewalk on Yale Road was obstructed by yellow tape.
