ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service was dispatched to two structure fires Wednesday in the city of Abbotsford, including one in the 34000 block of Kent Avenue that involved a fully engulfed home in flames, and a second incident where an explosion was reported in the 35000 block of Marshall Road.

According to a statement from Melissa Godbout from the City of Abbotsford, Abbotsford firefighters were dispatched at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 29) to Kent Avenue for the report of a structure fire. Crews arrived to find a residential structure fully involved.

The fire was fully extinguished and crews were able to protect neighbouring structures.

There were no injuries and the impacted residents are being supported by Emergency Support Services. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Godbout said.

In the second fire, Marshall Road between Orchard Drive and McCorkell Drive was temporarily closed due to a structure fire, according to a post from the AbbyPD at 3:54 p.m. AbbyPD and Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service were dispatched to the scene, and the fire is under control. The AbbyPD file for this second fire is 2023-56056.

In a statement released Wednesday evening by AbbyPD, patrol officers responded to Marshall Road at 2:42 p.m. for a reported explosion and subsequent structure fire. As police arrived at the scene, they assisted with closing traffic as Abbotsford Fire extinguished the blaze in a residential home.

“At this point, it appears no one was present inside the home during the fire,” Constable Art Stele of the AbbyPD wrote in an emailed statement to Fraser Valley Today. “The cause of the fire is not apparent.”

The road remained closed Wednesday evening as AbbyPD and AFRS piece together the factors that led to the fire, Cst. Stele said.
