Man serving 12-year prison term for attempted murder, other charges dies at Agassiz jail
AGASSIZ — Correctional Service Canada says a man who was serving a 12-year prison sentence for attempted murder and a litany of other offences has died in custody.
According to a statement from the federal agency, Dale Ahpay, an inmate from Kent Institution in Agassiz, died on Saturday, Nov. 25. At the time of death, the inmate had been serving a sentence of 12 years and 9 months for attempted murder, possession of prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon, and other offences since May 11, 2018.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified. CSC has not revealed how Ahpay died.
