CHILLIWACK — The B.C. government says it’s providing millions in funding to three projects aimed at protecting the province’s wild salmon populations.

Resources Minister Nathan Cullen says B.C. is a renowned fishing destination, with thousands of people depending on the recreational fishing industry for a living.

The Ministry says the Sport Fishing Institute, a B.C. non-profit, will receive 1.6 million dollars for a test fishery for chinook salmon and more than 715 thousand dollars to improve a Fishing B.C. mobile app.

A statement from the Ministry and Fisheries and Oceans Canada says sport fishing in B-C contributes approximately a billion dollars annually to local economies.
