Nominations open for Heritage Awards in Mission
MISSION — The City of Mission is calling for nominations for its annual Heritage Award, a recognition of the work of individuals, groups, and businesses which contribute significantly to the preservation, enhancement, and restoration of Mission’s heritage resources.
In a news release, Mayor Paul Horn emphasized the importance of acknowledging community initiatives that safeguard the city’s roots. “Our roots matter. So often, heritage projects and people work without recognition, so we ask the community to help us by nominating the heritage advocates and special places here in the City.”
Last year’s Heritage Award recipients included three downtown buildings: 33057 – 1st Avenue (current Goldenball Merchantile), 33120 and 33128 – 1st Avenue (historic Hougen Building, present Penny and Pressland), and 33026 – 2nd Avenue (historic Lane Family home, present The Magenta Rose House). These structures stood out for their outstanding efforts in preserving Mission’s historical charm.
Established by the Heritage Committee, the Heritage Award Program seeks to celebrate and spotlight the contributions made towards maintaining Mission’s unique heritage. The awards will be presented annually during Heritage Week, honoring those who have gone above and beyond to protect the city’s cultural legacy.
