Crash closes southbound lanes of Coquihalla – detour established

UPDATE: CHILLIWACK — DriveBC reported via social media that the highway was reopened at 12:29 p.m.

CHILLIWACK — DriveBC is reporting the closure of southbound lanes on the Coquihalla Highway Sunday (Nov. 19) morning following a vehicle incident.

It has not released details of the incident other than the closure is at the Zopkios Brake Check north of Hope. Images from a DriveBC webcam appear to show a vehicle on its side in the middle of southbound lanes.

Traffic is continuing through the region thanks to a detour that has been established around the problem area.

Environment Canada had issued a weather statement Saturday for the busy highway. It warned drivers of the potential of freezing rain through the area. It advised conditions could turn treacherous from Saturday night through most of the day Sunday.
