Patient hospitalized following crash on Highway 1 east of Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — Highway 1 east of Annis Road, east of Chilliwack, has been slowed following a vehicle incident shortly before noon on Friday (Oct. 13).

According to an image taken by Chris Leake, and shared with Fraser Valley Today, a semi truck apparently hit the centre median at about 11:30 a.m., prompting a multi-agency response from the Chilliwack Fire Department, Popkum Fire Department, RCMP and BC Ambulance Service.

The image from Leake shows the left front tire of the semi truck encroaching into the westbound side of the median.

Traffic was backed up on eastbound Highway 1 past Annis Road as emergency crews responded to the area. Drive BC wrote at 11:45 a.m. on X/Twitter: “Eastbound vehicle incident has the left lane blocked at Bridal Falls. Crews are on scene. Please watch for traffic control and pass with caution.”

Popkum and Chilliwack Fire Department crews were cleared of the scene at 12:12 p.m., according to scanner traffic.

BC Emergency Health Services confirmed in an email that one patient was transported to hospital.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 11:30 a.m. today about a motor vehicle incident on Highway 1 east of Annis Road,” a BC EHS spokesperson wrote in an email to Fraser Valley Today. “Two ambulances responded. Paramedics cared for and transported one patient to hospital.”

Drive BC says one lane is open.
