CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack man has been arrested and remains in custody after an alleged shooting that happened Sunday night on a Chilliwack Lake Road property.

In a statement from Sgt. Krista Vrolyk, Mounties in Chilliwack received a report of a disturbance on a property in the 46100 block of Chilliwack Lake Road just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3. Police arrived to find a 35 -year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg, Sgt. Vrolyk said. Information received was that the suspect had fled into a nearby forested area.

The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, Sgt. Vrolyk said. He remains hospitalized and is listed in critical but stable condition.

Multiple members of the Chilliwack RCMP, together with the Lower Mainland’s Emergency Response Team and Integrated Police Dog Services, attended the area. Chilliwack Lake Road was closed to traffic for approximately three hours while police searched for the suspect, Sgt. Vrolyk said.

At approximately 8:30 pm on Sunday, September 5th, 2023, police located and arrested a 48-year-old man, Eric Myren, without incident. A subsequent search of the property has resulted in the seizure of multiple firearms, Sgt. Vrolyk said.

Myren faces charges of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent and is expected to make his next court appearance on Wednesday, September 6.

“Police would like to thank the public, particularly the neighbours, for their patience while we worked to bring this high-risk situation to a safe conclusion. Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public” Sgt. Vrolyk said. “It is important to note that there is no indication that this event has any links to any ongoing gang conflicts.”
