MISSION — Mission’s Crime Prevention Office is seeking individuals with a passion for community safety to join their ranks as volunteers. Located at the heart of First Avenue, the initiative is driven by a team of committed volunteers who actively engage in delivering essential community safety programs that benefit the Mission area.

A news release from the City of Mission says Crime Prevention Volunteers play a crucial role in enhancing the safety and well-being of residents with services such as conducting speed watches to patrolling the streets and participating in community events.

Mayor Paul Horn says the significance of community involvement in ensuring safety. “While investing in policing and technology is important, there’s no substitute for neighbors looking out for each other,” Mayor Horn stated. He praised the commitment of the Crime Prevention Volunteers and highlighted the opportunity for community-oriented individuals to forge friendships while making a meaningful impact.

Volunteers from diverse backgrounds with varying skill sets are welcomed at Mission’s Crime Prevention Office. Whether applicants are uncertain about how their skills can contribute or not, they are encouraged to apply.

Rimmi Purewal, the Crime Prevention Coordinator, highlighted the significance of volunteers. “When like-minded individuals invest their precious time in giving back to the community, they collectively work towards preventing crime and promoting community safety,” Purewal said.

Volunteers can expect to commit four hours per week for a minimum of one year. As part of the application process, individuals will undergo RCMP security clearance and receive additional training to carry out their responsibilities.
