CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack RCMP motorcycle officer who was rear-ended last week in the 46100 block of Yale Road in downtown Chilliwack is expected to make a full recovery.

According to a statement Thursday from RCMP Sgt. Krista Vrolyk, media relations spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, Chilliwack RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services responded to a collision in the 46100 block of Yale Road in Chilliwack.

The collision involved an on-duty police officer operating a marked police motorcycle and a civilian vehicle. The police officer was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Sgt. Vrolyk said. He was transported to hospital where he was treated and later released.

A violation ticket was issued to the driver of the civilian vehicle for driving without consideration.

“The Chilliwack RCMP would like to thank all of the witnesses and public for their outpouring of concern and support for our officer,” Sgt. Vrolyk said. “We are relieved to know that our Member is expected to make a full recovery.”

According to two eyewitnesses who work at 89.5 JR Country in the building directly above the site of the accident, a motorcycle officer was rear-ended by a vehicle after the constable allowed a pedestrian to cross the road in a crosswalk. In doing so, while the motorcycle officer was stopped, a vehicle collided with the motorcycle.

One of the two eyewitnesses says the male motorcycle cop had his vehicle swung around in the opposite direction due to the impact of the collision. The car that rear-ended the vehicle was reportedly driven by a female who appeared to be very upset and bothered, almost distraught, by the accident, according to the eyewitness.

A picture shared by two eyewitnesses in the 46100 block of Yale Road shows several first responders and an ambulance surrounding the officer and the motorcycle in the District 1881 shopping vicinity.

Fire trucks blocked Yale Road in both directions as the officer was being attended to and treated.

The injured officer was reportedly placed on a stretcher and transported via ambulance to hospital. As mentioned, the constable was treated and released.
