Chilliwack RCMP investigating axe assault on Yale Road; victim hospitalized

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack RCMP are investigating an assault with a deadly weapon that happened over the weekend in downtown Chilliwack on Yale Road, possibly at a 7-Eleven convenience store.

According to a statement from the Chilliwack RCMP, Sgt. Krista Vrolyk says Mounties were dispatched to the 46200 block of Yale Road at about 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 15 for the report of an assault with a weapon.

Sgt. Vrolyk says preliminary investigation suggests that a 28-year-old woman was hit in the head with an axe by a suspect who fled the scene on a BMX style bike. The suspect is described as wearing a long sleeve black and white jacket, a black hat with dark hair and riding a BMX style bike. The suspect’s gender was not revealed.

The female victim was transported to hospital where she was treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries. She was released from hospital later that day.
