ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford are hoping the public can help them to learn how a vehicle wound up in a water-filled ditch Friday evening, sending a man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police were called to the 2800 block of Gladys Avenue at 8:43 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash. They were assisted by the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service, and BC Ambulance Service in successfully pulling the lone occupant of the vehicle to safety. The 59-year-old man was immediately transferred to hospital with his life in peril.

Abbotsford Police investigators and members of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service are trying to determine the events leading to the crash. The road was closed through the evening while investigators collected evidence.

Police are asking any witnesses and those with dashcam video captured along Gladys Avenue between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., to come forward. They are most interested in hearing from those who were travelling north on Gladys Avenue just before the intersection of Sumas Way and Highway 11.
