CHILLIWACK — Multiple police, fire and ambulance units responded to the intersection of Keith Wilson Road and Lindys Drive Tuesday morning (May 9) after three pedestrian youths were struck just before 8 a.m.

RCMP Corporal Martin Godard told Fraser Valley Today over the phone at 10:13 a.m. Tuesday morning that two youth sustained minor injuries, while a third pedestrian suffered more serious injuries, but they are not considered life-threatening injuries.

Corporal Godard said the driver involved in the collision remained on scene and he believes investigators have interacted with the driver.

In a press release Tuesday afternoon, Cpl. Godard said a vehicle was traveling west on Keith Wilson Road when it struck three pedestrians who were crossing the street in a marked crosswalk, resulting in injuries to all three youths.

Cpl. Godard said two youths have since been released from the hospital with minor injuries. The third youth is completing further medical examinations but expected to be released later today.

Impairment is not considered to be a contributing factor in this collision. The incident is still under investigation.

Keith Wilson Road between Lickman Road and Carter Road was closed to traffic as police investigators collected evidence from the scene with the assistance of the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (ICARS). It has since reopened in both directions.

Three B.C. ambulances could be seen driving westbound away from the scene at 8:18 a.m. on Keith Wilson Road. Their emergency lights were not activated.

An air ambulance was initially called out and fire personnel were going to set up a landing zone at Unsworth Elementary. However, the landing zone and air ambulance were cancelled at approximately 8:08 a.m.

An RCMP truck with its siren and lights activated sped southbound on Unsworth Road towards the incident at a high rate of speed responding to the area at about 8 a.m.

The accident tied up traffic on Keith Wilson Road, and drivers trying to get their kids to the nearest elementary school, Unsworth Elementary, were rerouted onto Lindys Drive, Sherry Drive, and then Webster Road back onto Keith Wilson Road.

There is an illuminated crosswalk beacon at Lindys Drive and Keith Wilson Road as many school kids and their families cross the street to head towards the neighbourhood just east of Unsworth Elementary, as well as Mount Slesse Middle School farther east.
