Abbotsford Police investigate stabbing at Matsqui Institution
ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford Police investigators are looking into stabbings at the Matsqui Institution Saturday (Apr. 29) evening.
In a news release, police say they were called to the prison in Abbotsford at 9:50 p.m. Upon their arrival, they found four inmates with injuries. Abbotsford Fire Rescue personnel were joined by members from the BC Ambulance Service in treating the four inmates. It’s not clear how many inmates were stabbed. Police say the injuries were considered serious but not life-threatening.
The AbbyPD Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation with the assistance of patrol officers and members of the Forensic Identification Section.
Investigators say they are in the early stages of their investigation but say indications suggest the incident is isolated to the prison and say the public is not at risk.
