According to social media reports, Chilliwack Fire had originally been requested to assist with a landing zone set up at Watson Elementary. Air ambulance was originally called but did not appear as of 7:40 p.m.

Two older gentlemen standing near Watson and Canterbury Saturday night said they witnessed a first responder attempt to perform CPR on a victim inside the cemetery.

A phone call has been placed to the RCMP detachment in Chilliwack seeking comment.

The possible shooting incident would mark the third type of incident in a week.

Earlier this week, RCMP officers converged on a neighbourhood in Sardis south of Wells Road near Richardson Avenue and Blue Jay Avenue Thursday afternoon to investigate a shooting incident.

Chilliwack RCMP Corporal Martin Godard released a statement Thursday indicating that the RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the 7000 block of Richardson Avenue. A man suffering from gunshot wounds was located and transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries, Corporal Godard reported.

Last Saturday, March 25, police responded to multiple reports of a disturbance followed by gun shots at the entrance to the city’s Rotary Trail park on Saturday night.

The RCMP say that police arrived and found two victims with multiple gun shot wounds. They say officers immediately provided first aid until Emergency Health Services arrived and transported the victims to hospital.

Police believe the incident was targeted and may be linked to the ongoing gang conflict in the Lower Mainland.
