Two people die in house fire on Skwah First Nation
CHILLIWACK — Two adults have died as the result of a fire that broke out on Skwah First Nation Saturday morning.
In a statement released Tuesday morning, Chilliwack Fire Chief Ian Josephson said 35 firefighters from five fire halls in Chilliwack were dispatched for a structure fire on Landing Drive on Skwah First Nation Saturday morning. The call came in at 7:25 a.m. Saturday.
Fire crews arrived to discover a fully engulfed structure fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire, accessed the single-family residential house and located two deceased adults on the upper floor of the home, Chief Josephson said. The majority of the fire damage was contained to two rooms on the main floor and the entire upper floor and attic space, with smoke and water damage to the remainder of the house. There were no firefighter injuries, Josephson said.
Chilliwack Fire Department fire investigators, RCMP investigators, and B.C. Coroners Service are working collaboratively to complete the fire investigation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
