Abbotsford man, 18, spits at police after getting caught speeding in parents’ Honda CRV
ABBOTSFORD — An 18-year-old Abbotsford man faces charges of assaulting a police officer and obstruction, in addition to traffic-related infractions, after he was observed driving recklessly Monday night in Abbotsford.
According to a news release from Abbotsford Police Department Sgt. Paul Walker, Abbotsford Police patrol officers were conducting routine patrols at 11:16 p.m. on Monday, March 20 along South Fraser Way at Clearbrook Road when they witnessed a black Honda CRV traveling 90 kilometres an hour in a 50-km zome. Over the next couple minutes, Sgt. Walker said, officers further observed the vehicle fail to stop at a controlled intersection, fail to signal, tailgate another vehicle, and pass another car over a solid double line.
During this time, Sgt. Walker said, the vehicle sped at a rate of 105 km/hour in a posted 50-km zone. Once officers initiated a traffic stop and as enforcement action was being undertaken by police, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Sukhmann Sidhu of Abbotsford, failed to comply with police instructions to identify himself when asked for his driver’s license.
Police cautioned Sidhu that failing to comply with this lawful police direction would result in him being arrested for obstruction. After several further attempts to have this driver comply voluntarily, the driver continued to refuse and spat in the face of the two arresting officers.
