ABBOTSFORD – British Columbia’s move to permanent Daylight Saving Time means winter mornings are darker as students make their way to school.

The Abbotsford School District is responding to the issue by launching a new campaign to invite residents and business owners to put their outdoor lights on during the morning hours, particularly between 7 and 9 a.m.

In a news release, Dr. Nathan Ngieng, Superintendent of the Abbotsford School District, says one of the things that makes Abbotsford special is how the community comes together to support children and families.

“Brighten the Path to School is a simple way for all of us to do something positive.  It’s not how many lights we turn on, but the spirit behind the gesture and showing our students that they’re part of a community that cares,” said Ngieng.
