Chilliwack’s next mayor and council to be sworn in tonight

CHILLIWACK – A new chapter at Chilliwack City Hall gets underway tonight as Mayor Jason Lum and six councillors take their oaths of office at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre and formally begin a four-year term.

Festivities get underway at 6 p.m. as Chilliwack’s ninth council of Mayor Jason Paul Lum and Councillors Sebastian Christian Kloot, Nicole Susan Read, Thomas Trevor McDonald, Steven Darrell Czeck, Kevin Michael Baarda, and Susan Jeanette Knott will each take an oath before B.C. Supreme Court Justice Thomas Crabtree.

Also taking part in the ceremony are Constables Scott Finlayson and Mandeep Thandi of the RCMP Honour Guard, piper Kendal Clarke, singer Karsyn Savard, piano player Josiah Voth, and the Chilliwack Community Band.

Mayor Lum will deliver his inaugural address tonight.

Mayor Lum and Councillors Kloot, Read, McDonald and will represent Chilliwack on the Fraser Valley Regional District board of directors and the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital board of directors. Councillors Czeck, Baarda and Knott will serve as alternates to both boards.
