MISSION — Mission RCMP have stopped motorists for speeding and other traffic infractions during recent enforcement activities, including one driver caught travelling more than twice the posted speed limit.

Last week, on the morning of October 21, the RCMP Traffic Services Unit conducted a safety enforcement campaign along North Railway Avenue near the Westcoast Express station.

Numerous vehicles were stopped for speeding and other traffic violations.

One driver, a 36-year-old Surrey man, was caught travelling at 91 km/h in a 40 km/h zone. His vehicle was impounded for seven days, and he received a violation ticket.

Police officers are reminding motorists to slow down in the area, which has numerous crosswalks, intersections and parked vehicles, as well as pedestrian traffic accessing transit facilities and the skybridge across the tracks.

In a separate incident on the night of October 24, an officer observed a white Dodge Ram pickup leaving the shopping plaza at Stave Lake Street and 11th Avenue before heading north on Stave Lake Street.

The truck was seen swerving across both the centre line and the fog line. It nearly collided with another vehicle while making a turn.

The driver had a strong odour of liquor on his breath and glazed eyes, according to the information provided by police.

The driver was asked to provide a breath sample using a roadside screening device but refused, saying he lived only a block away.

His truck was impounded for 30 days, and he was prohibited from driving for 90 days.
