VANCOUVER — The B.C. RCMP has begun introducing new navy-blue uniform shirts for frontline officers across the province, replacing the traditional grey shirts.

The phased rollout began this month, with frontline officers working at detachments starting to wear the new uniforms.

The national rollout began in the spring of 2025 and has been expanding province by province over the past 12 months. Shirts are being distributed to officers according to a scheduled national plan.

During the transition, members of the public may see officers wearing either grey or navy-blue shirts while on duty. Both are official RCMP attire, and officers may continue wearing either version for the foreseeable future.

Major crime investigators and officers in specialized units, including Emergency Response Teams, Uniform Gang Enforcement Teams and Underwater Recovery Teams, will continue wearing their existing unit-specific uniforms or plain clothes as required.

The RCMP acknowledges that the change in appearance may prompt questions, particularly following recent incidents involving people impersonating police officers.

Anyone concerned about an officer’s identity is encouraged to ask for official identification. Members of the public can also contact their local RCMP detachment’s non-emergency line to verify whether an officer is working in their area.

The new shirts are part of the RCMP’s ongoing efforts to modernize its uniform while maintaining professionalism and public trust.
