ABBOTSFORD – A head-on collision involving an SUV and a dump truck on Marshall Road in Abbotsford has claimed the lives of two people Friday.

AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker says patrol and traffic officers responded to a serious head-on collision involving a dump truck and an SUV at 11:32 a.m. Friday in the 30000 block of Marshall Road.

When police arrived, officers located both vehicles with significant damage, fully blocking the roadway.

The driver of the dump truck, who was understandably shaken by the incident, sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Tragically, despite the life-saving efforts of first responders, both the driver and passenger of the SUV were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Sgt. Walker says preliminary evidence indicates the dump truck was travelling eastbound on Marshall Road when the westbound SUV crossed into the eastbound lane, resulting in the collision.

Sgt. Walker says the driver of the dump truck is cooperating fully with police and the investigation.

The investigation remains in its early stages and is being led by the AbbyPD Traffic Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).

As a result of the investigation, Marshall Road is closed in both directions between Ross Road and Mt. Lehman Road and is expected to remain closed for several hours.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

“The Abbotsford Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic incident,” Sgt. Walker said.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash camera footage from the area at the time of the incident, to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to come forward.
