‘Multiple suspects’ arrested in Surrey after targeted shooting in Merritt: RCMP
MERRITT – Merritt RCMP say an investigation into a targeted shooting from earlier this month has led to multiple arrests in the Lower Mainland, following tips that were provided to police from members of the public.
RCMP were investigating the Oct. 4 shooting in the 2900-block of Blair Avenue, which left two people – who were known to police – with non-life threatening injuries. At the time, police also noted a white 2017 Range Rover was seen leaving the scene of the shooting.
In a statement Tuesday (Oct. 13), Merritt RCMP spokesperson Cst. Blake Chursinoff said multiple suspects were identified and arrested in Surrey last Thursday (Oct. 8) – four days after the shooting, though identities were not provided.
“The community are the eyes and ears of our neighbourhoods. Numerous individuals stepped up and provided information or assistance that had a direct result in the police identifying and then locating the suspects in this violent occurrence,” Chursinoff said.
“Those suspects were arrested and are now before the courts.”
Police are still appealing for more information, and they’re asking people who have not yet come forward to contact their local police department and reference Merritt RCMP file 2026-5812.
“The Merritt RCMP would like to extend a very big ‘thank you’ to those who assisted – you made a difference,” Chursinoff added.
