Another Mission senior scammed out of thousands of dollars: RCMP
MISSION – Less than two weeks after an elderly man in Mission lost $36,000 in an FBI gift-card hoax, another senior in Mission has been scammed out of thousands of dollars.
According to the “Community Connection” weekly recap from Mission RCMP Corporal Harrison Mohr for Oct. 5-11, a 72-year-old woman from Mission was scammed out of over $10,000 recently, after being contacted by someone who claimed to be an employee of the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
Corporal Mohr says the suspect who claimed to be a Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre told the woman that her debit and credit cards had been compromised, and they would send over an investigator to collect her compromised cards.
Corporal Mohr says a male attended her residence and she unfortunately provided him with her cards and PIN numbers, only to later realize it was a scam.
