ABBOTSFORD — Communities across the Fraser Valley are continuing to mark Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month this October as Abbotsford kicks off its own Purple Lights Nights campaign today (Oct. 3).

The launch is set for 10 a.m. at the Abbotsford Farmers Market in Jubilee Park, with AbbyPD’s Victim Services Unit providing resources and directing people to services while survivors or service providers share their lived experiences with attendees.

“As part of this Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month, AbbyPD Headquarters will be illuminated in purple each night, standing as a visible reminder of our collective commitment to prevention, education, support for survivors, and an end to abuse,” said AbbyPD.

“Together, AbbyPD, community partners, stakeholders, and supporters will stand united to raise awareness, foster meaningful dialogue, and help break the cycle of intimate partner violence.”

Participants may also see the Purple Charger during their visits – an old police cruiser wrapped especially for PLN’s Fill the Purple Charger campaign to be filled with much-needed item donations such as clothing, feminine hygiene products, grocery gift cards and other necessities.

PLN began in Covington, Washington, in 2006, and the Violence Against Women in Relationships Committee in Abbotsford and Mission has since adopted it to shine a light on partner violence locally.

Chilliwack and Hope RCMP launched their own campaign this past Thursday.
