Surrey resident plans to help his family buy a house after winning $32M Lotto 6/49 jackpot

SURREY – A Surrey resident plans to help his family with the purchase of a home after winning a massive Lotto 6/49 jackpot just over a week ago.

According to a statement from the BC Lottery Corporation, Amritpal S. of Surrey went to White Rock earlier this month following a busy day and a need to get away to clear his head. BCLC says he saw that there was a lottery win in Surrey and decided to scan his ticket.

Instead of merely clearing his head, Amritpal had a lot more on his mind after learning that he won the $32-million Gold Ball Jackpot from the September 19, 2026 Lotto 6/49 draw.

“I checked my ticket in the car, using the [BCLC Lotto! Mobile] app,” he said. “I saw the amount and was confused. I read $32,000 and used other phones to check. I couldn’t process it!”

The Surrey resident went home and told his sister who was eating dinner about the wild news. “My sister was the first person I told. She was speechless and started crying.”

Amritpal says he plans to celebrate his win with family. While he is still taking some time to decide what to do with his windfall, he told the BCLC that he wants to help his parents and sister purchase a house, and get a few cars.

“I know I can buy anything I want, but I’m still taking some time to decide. My dream car is a Dodge Challenger though.”

He added, “I’m so happy! This will change my life.”

The winning ticket was purchased at 7-Eleven on 152 Street and 104 Avenue in Surrey.

Amritpal formally completed his prize claim at BCLC’s Vancouver office on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $85 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49 in 2026 alone.

The BCLC points out that Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. (PST). The Gold Ball Draw is a guaranteed prize draw where players win either the Guaranteed Prize of $1 million, or the growing Gold Ball Jackpot that starts at $10 million. The Classic Jackpot offers a prize that is always $5 million.
