Dzaman will be seeking one of three commissioner positions from Cultus Lake. He was originally appointed by the City of Chilliwack to fill a vacancy on the park board in 2020. He was subsequently acclaimed as a Chilliwack representative in the 2022 election.

“This time, I have chosen to seek the support of Cultus Lake residents directly,” Dzaman said. “My years on the Board have deepened my respect for the people who call Cultus Lake home. I appreciate your knowledge of this community and the care you have for the lake, its history and its future.”

During his time as chair of the Village Centre Planning and Development Committee, Dzaman says he collaborated with dedicated committee members to provide recommendations to the park board that helped move the long-planned Village Centre concept through community engagement, planning and an RFP process that resulted in Diverse Properties being selected as the preferred proponent.

He says significant work remains before any final development decision is made, including technical and environmental studies, infrastructure and traffic considerations, zoning, engagement with neighbouring communities and continued updates for the Cultus Lake community.

“The Village Centre isn’t simply a real estate project. Any development has to be considered in the context of Cultus Lake: our infrastructure, environment, financial sustainability, neighbouring communities and the character of this community,” Dzaman said. “My family’s history at Cultus Lake gives me a deep appreciation for what previous generations have passed down to us, but what matters now is what we do with that responsibility. There is important work ahead, and I have learned a tremendous amount through more than five years of service on the Board. I respect the residential vote at Cultus Lake, as well as your commitment to this community and your willingness to remain engaged in its future. I am asking Cultus Lake residents for the opportunity to continue serving – to listen, build relationships, protect what makes Cultus Lake special, and help make informed and responsible decisions about its future.”
