Chilliwack dominated the shot count throughout the game, racking up 49 shots on goal. Coquitlam’s Griard, however, was a force to be reckoned with in net. Coquitlam opened the scoring in the first before Chilliwack’s Kristers Obuks tied it up with his own, marking not only the Chiefs’ first of the season but also his first in the BCHL. The teams traded goals again in the second and third frames, with Brady Keith tallying his first in the BCHL on a breakaway and Jack Mccullough scoring his first on a wrist shot that deflected off a Coquitlam defender into the net. Sixty minutes wasn’t enough to decide the game, and overtime was needed. Justin Dumais was the overtime hero for Chilliwack, calling game and sending Chiefs fans to their feet.

After starting the season how they wanted, the Chiefs hope to continue that as they head on the road tomorrow to face off against the Surrey Eagles. The Chiefs will be back on home ice in four days, taking on the Cowichan Valley Capitals at 7 pm on Wednesday, September 23rd. See you there, Chiefs fans!
