Mission RCMP box in suspicious vehicle, apprehend suspect linked to several criminal investigations

MISSION – A man linked to several police investigations in the Lower Mainland thought he could outrun Mission RCMP officers when they boxed in his vehicle earlier this month, but to no avail.

Mission RCMP spokesperson Corporal Harrison Mohr says one of its officers was conducting proactive patrols shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 when he observed a suspicious vehicle parked along Logan Avenue in Mission. The RCMP member saw a male in the driver’s seat.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed on a police database that the vehicle was connected to recent investigations from the Vancouver Police Department, New Westminster Police Department, and Metro Vancouver Transit Police. In these incidents, Corporal Mohr says the vehicle or its own had fled from police in all of these instances.

Due to the information they obtained, Mission RCMP members proactively boxed in the vehicle to stop it from fleeing. The driver got out of his vehicle, denied driving, told police he did not have a driver’s license, and then bolted from the scene running. Police told the man he was under arrest for obstructing a peace officer, but continued running for a short distance until officers were able to get control of the man and took him into custody.
