ABBOTSFORD – Two motorists in their 20s who appeared to be racing each other at over 170 km/h on Highway 1 early Monday morning in Abbotsford will need to find an alternate form of transportation for the next week.

Andrea Macpherson, communications and engagement specialist for the Abbotsford Police Department, says the incident happened at approximately 1:10 a.m. Monday morning (Sept. 14). The two vehicles were travelling westbound on Highway 1 through Sumas Way in a marked 80 km/h construction zone.

Macpherson says a patrol officer running radar in his vehicle determined the vehicles were travelling above 170 km/h, and it appears the vehicles were racing each other along that stretch.

She says once a traffic stop was initiated, both 25-year-old drivers were served with tickets for excessive speed.
