Two-term Chilliwack councillor won’t seek re-election this fall
CHILLIWACK – A two-term councillor in Chilliwack announced Sunday he will not seek a third term in this fall’s municipal election.
In a statement, Councillor Jeff Shields said he’s relished the opportunity to collaborate with a number of people over the past eight years since he was first elected in October 2018.
“Serving on Council has been an incredible privilege, and I am deeply grateful for the trust people placed in me and for the opportunity to serve a community that means so much to me,” said Shields, a chartered accountant. “There have been ups and downs, challenges and rewards, wins and losses and without a doubt, it’s been an incredible and rewarding ride. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some great people, learn a tremendous amount, and hopefully make a positive contribution to our community.”
Through shared consensus and times of disagreement, he extended thanks to his fellow elected officials for their work, as well to municipal staff for their professionalism.
