Indigenous communities, Fraser Valley RCMP take on 5-day journey on Harrison and Fraser Rivers

AGASSIZ — Police have recently paddled with local Indigenous communities to mark a quarter-century of reconciliation efforts in the region.

The 25th annual Pulling Together Canoe Journey was held from August 17 to August 21, with canoes travelling from the Sts’ailes First Nation near Agassiz, down the Harrison and Fraser Rivers, and landing in Tsawwassen.

“The Pulling Together Canoe Journey provides a meaningful opportunity to learn, listen, and strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities throughout the Upper Fraser Valley,” said Sergeant Jaden Courtney of the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment. 

Members of the UFVRD Indigenous Policing Section participated in ceremonies and other activities throughout the event week, as well as supported marine safety on the water.
