Abbotsford – Mission byelection called for September

ABBOTSFORD — A September 26 byelection has been called for the seat vacated by BC Conservative Party MLA Reann Gasper with her August 22 resignation.

It’s widely expected that Gasper stepped down to clear the way for Conservative Leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay to earn a seat in the legislature.

In a statement at the time of her resignation, Gasper stated, “I believe that giving our leader the opportunity to seek this seat strengthens our team and puts us in a stronger position for the work ahead.”

However Findlay has been under fire after six members of her caucus recently stepped away from the party, citing their unwillingness to follow her leadership. It’s rumoured more could walk away during Monday’s caucus meeting in Richmond amid calls for Findlay’s resignation as leader.
