Chilliwack Rotary outdoor book sale cancelled due to rain

CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Rotary Outdoor Book Sale scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled because of the threat of rain in the forecast.

Book Sale committee chair Dick Clegg said organizers reviewed weather forecasts for a possible break that would allow the one-day outdoor event to proceed, but determined conditions would not co-operate.

“Plain and simple, rain and books are not a good combination,” Clegg said.

Materials that were to be offered at the outdoor sale will instead be saved for the Rotary Club’s week-long Indoor Book Sale, which runs November 1 to November 7 at Chilliwack Heritage Park.

The indoor sale will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Rotary president Jared Mumford said the cancellation is unfortunate because the outdoor sale is well received by the community and is one of the club’s larger fundraisers.

Money raised through the outdoor sale is usually set aside for food security and environmental projects in the community. The indoor sale helps fund most of the scholarships awarded by the club.

Mumford said people looking to support Rotary in the meantime can purchase Chilliwack Rotary 50/50 Community Raffle tickets through the club’s raffle website.
