Lawyer, father of 4 to run for Chilliwack school board
CHILLIWACK – A commercial litigator and partner at a B.C. law firm who resides in Yarrow will run for a seat on the Chilliwack Board of Education in the fall election.
Michael Carter, a partner at White Rock-based Cleveland Doan LLP where he practices commercial litigation, is a married father of four who resides in Yarrow. His kids range in age from five to 19 years old. His eldest is working on her Bachelor of Education degree toward a goal of becoming an educator.
According to a biography on the Trustees for Change website, Carter’s skill set as a commercial litigator comes from negotiation, not confrontation.
“Complex commercial litigation is about listening carefully, identifying the important issues and finding workable common ground among parties who disagree,” the Trustees for Change website stated. “These techniques for untangling complex problems are techniques Michael hopes to bring to his work as a school trustee, seeing the complexity but keeping focus on the students.”
