Man dies in train collision in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — Police confirm that a pedestrian has died after being struck by a train in Chilliwack on Friday night (Aug. 14).

Chilliwack RCMP received a report of the train collision in the area of Young Road and Railway Avenue, by the Chilliwack Bottle Depot, at around 9:45 p.m.

Residents reported hearing a horn blast several times, followed by the screech of emergency brakes coming from the train.

BC RCMP says attending officers then found a man underneath the Yale Road overpass.

First responders with BC Emergency Health Services confirmed that the man was deceased.

Fraser Valley Today reporter Mike Vanden Bosch was on scene and spotted roughly six RCMP vehicles on scene as of 10:22 p.m. that evening.

The road was blocked, and the train stalled as crews investigated.

Anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611.
