Over 200 inmates relocated from Abbotsford prison after pipe burst
ABBOTSFORD — Staff have relocated inmates from an Abbotsford federal prison after significant flooding and damage from a pipe burst on Saturday (Aug. 8), according to the Correctional Service of Canada.
The CSC says the incident affected three units in the medium-security Matsqui Institution, which required the partial and temporary evacuation of 218 inmates in affected areas as urgent repairs take place.
The institution can hold up to 446 inmates.
“The inmates involved were safely transferred, in accordance with established security protocols and operational procedures, either to unaffected areas within Matsqui Institution or to other federal institutions in the region,” said the CSC.
