ABBOTSFORD — The independent civilian watchdog tasked with oversight of police agencies in British Columbia has cleared the Abbotsford Police Department and its officers of any wrongdoing after a woman who fled from police was hit by a car on Old Yale Road in Abbotsford on Sunday, January 29.

According to a statement released Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 31), the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. has concluded investigation 2023-022 into an incident in Abbotsford where one woman was injured.

Shortly after 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, an officer with the Abbotsford Police Department was patrolling when the police officer saw a man and woman causing a disturbance in front of a business in the 32000 block of South Fraser Way. When the officer advised the woman that she was under arrest, civilian witnesses confirm she ran from the officer into traffic on Old Yale Road where she was struck by a vehicle.

The officer provided assistance until Emergency Health Services arrived and transported her to the hospital for treatment.
