MISSION — Mounties are hoping to get more information on a stolen pickup truck that ended up charred in a Mission back road last week.

Police say a green Ford Explorer pickup was stolen from an Abbotsford home on July 6, only to be found along the False Creek Forest Service Road four days later.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161 and quote file number 2026-9022.

Officers responded to 351 calls between July 6 and 12, including an attempted theft and a vehicle incident, according to the RCMP’s Community Connection.

On the afternoon of July 9, a man reportedly stole a “considerable amount” of items from a store and tried to run away from police into some nearby bushes.

The officer then caught up with the suspect, who was carrying two bags of stolen goods, and arrested him.

The 36-year-old has prior theft convictions and other pending charges, but was released as the store did not want to support charges against him.

He was taken into custody the next day after he stole from another store.

That weekend, July 11, a rider was airlifted to hospital after a crash involving his motorcycle and a car on Lougheed Highway, just west of Dewdney Trunk Road, near Hatzic.

A black Dodge Durango was travelling east on the highway when it turned left into the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant, striking the rider.

He was launched over his handlebars and received serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Witnesses who have not yet spoken with police are asked to call Mission RCMP and quote file 26-9100.
