Abbotsford police unveil new forest-themed interview room for child witnesses and victims
ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department is looking to make traumatic experiences feel less daunting to recount by introducing a new police interview room for kids.
“The Forest”, a forest- and jungle-themed room with couches, plushies, colouring supplies, and more, has been opened to help child victims and witnesses feel more comfortable when recalling frightening situations.
“As a former victim services worker, I understand how difficult these situations can be,” said Sandy Blue, President of the Abbotsford Police Foundation. “Creating a warm, childfriendly space instead of a traditional interview room can make a meaningful difference in helping young people feel safe and supported during a challenging time.”
Detective Jody Thomas approached the Foundation with the idea.
