Construction to start this week on Prest Road widening in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK – Without further delays and provincial red tape to navigate, the City of Chilliwack says construction is set to begin this week on the long-overdue widening of Prest Road between Bailey Road and McGuire Road.

The city says the project will officially begin this Thursday, July 2, and motorists should expect delays and take an alternate route if possible.

Chilliwack councillors voted in June 2026 to award the project tender to Ballina Contracting Ltd. for $5,721,650.66 because it submitted the lowest-cost tender. City staff said their submission met all the requirements of the tender. Ballina Contracting Ltd. has successfully completed projects of similar scope and nature for the city of Chilliwack and other municipalities.

The scope of work features all labour, materials and equipment for the construction of approximately 1,500 metres of road widening between Bailey Road and McGuire Road, and a single-lane roundabout at McGuire Road, including concrete curbs, sidewalk, streetlighting, drainage works and riparian plantings.
