Wildfire SE of the Coquihalla Summit more than triples in size from yesterday

GRASSHOPPER MOUNTAIN – A wildfire located southeast of the Coquihalla Summit has more than tripled in size from yesterday when it was much smaller.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the fire was discovered on Tuesday, June 16 and estimated to be 15 hectares yesterday.

By Wednesday morning, however, the fire has grown in leaps and bounds to 57 hectares.

Tulameen & District Fire Chief Jody Woodford says heavy equipment, helicopters, and ground crews are actioning the fire.

The fire is considered out of control and could expand beyond its current perimeter.

The suspect source of the fire is human caused.

There is an evacuation alert currently in place for Grasshopper Mountain.
