FRASER VALLEY – The province plans to resurface sections of Highway 1 in Abbotsford and near Hope this year as part of a $102.5-million regional investment toward improving roads and extending pavement life.

In a statement, the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit says resurfacing is planned throughout B.C.’s south coast.

In the Lower Mainland, 11 kilometres of Highway 1 and side roads in Abbotsford will be resurfaced.

Approximately 30 kms of westbound Highway 1 near Hope will see smoother roads once construction is done.

Repairs to Highway 1 in North Vancouver and additional work on Vancouver Island highways and roads comprise the rest of the planned $102.5 million allocation for road repairs.

This work will repair roads worn by traffic and weather, giving motorists smoother rides and safer driving conditions on principal routes they drive on every day.

Drivers can anticipate temporary traffic changes, reduced speeds and minor delays in active construction zones.
