IHIT called to Maple Ridge after 28-year-old man dies from fatal altercation
MAPLE RIDGE – Homicide detectives have been called to Maple Ridge after an altercation Sunday night left a 28-year-old man deceased.
IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong says police responded to a report of a fight in progress in the 22300 block of River Road Sunday night, May 31 at about 6:51 p.m. When police arrived, they found a 28-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. First responders initiated life-saving procedures but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
IHIT has been deployed and taken control of the investigation, while it works closely with the Maple Ridge RCMP Serious Crime Unit, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service to advance the investigation.
Sgt. Fong says investigators believe this was an isolated and targeted incident where the parties involved were known to each other. The investigation is ongoing; however, the incident is not believed to be related to gang activity.
